Thanks for the suggestion. I am curious about what you mean by "script mode" and how it is different from the editor already available in Octave Online. If you sign in to Octave Online by clicking the link at the upper-right-hand corner of the screen, you can save, edit, and evaluate script files.

Basic support for *.mat data files was added in December; see the following ticket.
